Camera + Paper + Colored Pens + Travel
It was in May, 2010, when me my 9 other friends met Carla Otto from KISD, Germany, who had come to our institute for a week to work with us on her mid term project at KISD,
" My Desk Is My Caslte ".
As the project title sounds, it had to do with people and their desk. She told us that the research destinations were majorly, gender specific and inter-cultural and that the project covers 4 types of different branches, Administration, Banks / Insurance Offices, Call Centers and Design Studios.
Of these, we were supposed to work mainly on design studios in Pune. We covered Design Studios from our institute which is MAEER's MIT Institute of Design, Lokus Design and Elephant Design.
Having taken detailed pictures of people's desk, ask them questions about what and why are certain kind of products kept on their desk, what would they miss the most or the least etc. we categorized the data into titles like Trophies, Art, Fun and memories, Toys and Figures, Plants, Personal Office Upgrade, Health and Beauty Products, Daily Life Accessories, Food, Beverages and Tobacco, Kitchen items and Anything other.
Consequently the point analysis based on gender and type of office was done to infer data like how and why people keep their desks the way they do.
P.S : A travelling exhibition and a book was to be published on the inference of the extensive research done all over the world by Carla Otto.
